In August of 2015 Brent Allen Outside partnered with the Surfrider Foundation Chapter of Monterey to take Stand Up Paddle boards into the kelp beds of Point Lobos State Park to pull plastics and floating trash from the kelp.
This is part of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary and is one of the most beautiful marine environments in the world.
This year 8/5/2016 we had a permit that allowed for a larger number of boards, but the Soberanes Canyon Fire had closed the park. The park re-opened 2 days prior, so only 3 of us Myself, Clarke Graves of www.calipaddler.com and Phil DiGirolamo (paddle board instructor with REI ) made it happen.
This was the harbor seal that greeted us at whalers cove when we returned with the plastics and floating trash. The seal could smell the fish basket we found in the kelp at bluefish cove. Please share this simple method of ocean stewardship to others that paddle. Mahalo, Brent Allen Outside Carmel , CA
